LIMAR has decided to include Mips in several models of our range since Mips is a company that specializes in helmet-based safety and protection, a world-leader in this area.
LIMAR has selected the most suitable type of Mips for each model with unique features described here below.
AIR ATLAS MIPS
The Air Node is super slim and super light. Dressed up as padding it stays unnoticed until needed.
Mips Air is a rotational management system RMS specifically developed and designed to be the lightest system possible to help reduce rotational energies otherwise transferred to the head during an impact or crash. The Mips Air technology is integrated into the helmet’s padding and enables 10-15mm of relative movement between the energy-absorbing layer and the padding. The relative movement of the Mips Air is helped by having a backing of polycarbonate PC with a special low friction treatment and being held by specially designed fixations enabling movement in all directions. By being integrated into the padding the system is as light as it gets and designed to fit each specific helmet and size, barely being visible to the user and adding only limited weight to the helmet.

Unique solution that Mips has developed for our model ALBEN where the supreme Mips features are adapted to our model, with the Mips layer under the pads system, and matching the pad shape, so to ensure lightness, no extra sweating and fully compliance with the ventilation structure designed for the specific helmet model.
Mips Evolve is a rotational management system that not only can lower the energies transferred to the head during an impact or crash, but does this with added style, comfort and fit. The system consists of a Low Friction Layer (LFL) that is less than 1mm thick with a low friction coating that lessens the friction towards the energy absorbing layer. The LFL is tailor-made for every helmet and size and sits between the impact absorbing layer and the padding. The Mips Evolve utilizes the latest Mips technology to hold the LFL in place during daily use. Every part is designed and manufactured for the best possible user experience.
LIMAR TESTS ON
But if the customer cannot afford Mips or does not have Mips available – what are LIMAR standard products offering in terms of safety in case of ROTATIONAL IMPACT?
For all other types of impacts LIMAR range meets all International certified and recognized homologations: CE EN 1078:1997/A1:2005 (European Standard) Standard Europeo AS/NZS 2063:2008+ A1:2009 (Australian Standard) Standard Australiano CPSC 16 CFR 1203 (American Standard) Standard Americano.
The commitment of LIMAR is though to ensure the maximum safety to all our products, and guarantee to our riders the highest standards for all types of impacts (including rotational), with a constant quality control and testing both internally as through independent credited labs.
LIMAR HELMETS PERFORMANCE IN CASE OF ROTATIONAL IMPACTS
The latest tests have been recently performed in an independent certified laboratory.
For these tests, we have used the EN960 HEADS with moment of inertia in compliance with ECE22/06 in magnesium alloy, the official heads used in all certified homologation standards. Mips instead uses another type of heads (mipsprotection.com/science-technology/the-fe-model/).
Note that human heads have both skin and most times also hair both reducing the friction coefficient in real impacts.
-Oblique impact tests: at 45° (front/side/rear) – BrlC < 0,78 (Brain Injury Criterium)
-Headforms: EN960 with moment of inertia of ECE22/06
-Models tested: AIR PRO MIPS sizes M and L, AIR PRO sizes M and L, ALBEN MIPS sizes M and L, ALBEN sizes M and L.
After the several tests on LIMAR top of the range model AIR PRO and best seller ALBEN we are glad to inform that all helmets with and without Mips have responded very well to all testing, with an overall average value inferior to 0,390 BrlC.
Really outstanding results are coming though from the most frequent impacts, i.e. front and side hits with the following average values:
– in front impacts <0,32 BrlC with Mips and without Mips
– in side impacts <0,13 BrlC with Mips and without Mips
Here above the words our passionate cyclists, writing to Limar about their serious accident and thanking us for saving their life with our helmets.
“Hello Limar, Please see attached pictures of my broken Air Pro, fair to say it probably went a long way to saving my life last week, thank you. Adam.”
“Hi to Limar Helmets. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for providing quality helmets to the world. If it wasn’t for your helmet I wouldn’t be here writing this email. I had a heavy crash at a track carnival over the weekend, in Wagga Wagga, Australia, landing on my back and smashing the back of my head on to the asphalt. In my opinion, the helmet has saved my life. It has given me the chance to see my kids grow up. This might sound sappy but I cannot thank you enough. So thank you again. Thanks and kind regards Brian”
“Dear Limar, During the provincial championship of West-Flanders for juniors (17 y/o) I was involved in a big crash ( we were riding at +-45 km/h after 100 km of racing). It is a wonder that / didn’t have more serious injuries, I fell on my head but didn’t have a serious concussion because of your amazing helmet. Kindest Regards. Limar fan Jens”
“Hi team Limar, I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thank you. Thank you for designing a helmet that potentially saved my life when I came off my TT bike travelling at speed. I’m pretty beaten up, but even though the helmet cracked (the plastic bit inside), I have no head injuries and for that I can only thank vou. It’s the best helmet I’ve had and I will definitely be buying the same model again! Thank you. Maria”
